About us

Farmers Basket is the trading name of Rafael Rippon, a sole trader, of 51 Ongar Road, London SW6 1SH. You can reach us at rafael@ripponstudio.co.uk.

Who you are buying from

Farmers Basket is a marketplace. When you order food, your contract for that food is with the stall, not with us. The stall is responsible for the food it sells, its description, its price, its weight, its allergen information and handing it over on market day. We are responsible for the site, for passing your order to the stall and for taking your payment on the stall’s behalf.

Orders and collection

  • Orders start at £10.
  • An order is confirmed when you see your collection code and receive the confirmation email.
  • Orders for a market day close at 6pm the evening before, unless your order shows a different time.
  • Everything on Farmers Basket is collection only. There is no delivery, ever.
  • You collect at the stall on the market day shown on your order, during the market's opening hours.
  • Bring your collection code. The stall hands your food over against that code.
  • Food not collected by the end of the market day may be sold to someone else.
  • For food sold by weight you pay for the weight you chose. The stall weighs it out as close to that as it can. If it comes in under, tell us and we will refund the difference.

Prices and payment

  • Prices are set by the stall and include VAT where it applies.
  • Every price on Farmers Basket includes our 10% service fee, which is our charge for the service. Your basket and checkout show how much of your total it is.
  • You pay for everything online when you order, including food sold by weight. There is nothing to pay at the stall.
  • We take payment for the food as the stall's agent, so once you have paid us you have paid the stall.
  • Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card details.

Changes, cancellations and refunds

Your rights, and how to cancel, are set out in our cancellations and refunds notice, which forms part of these terms.

Your account

  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us if someone else uses your account.
  • Give accurate details, so stalls can prepare the right order.
  • You must be 16 or over to hold an account or place an order.
  • We can suspend or close an account that misuses the site, for example fake orders or abuse of stall owners.

Extra terms for stalls

If you sell on Farmers Basket, you are using it for your business, and these extra terms apply to you as well.

  • You confirm you are entitled to trade, that you hold the registrations, insurance and food hygiene approvals your business needs, and that your listings are accurate.
  • Stalls are responsible for allergen and food information being correct and up to date, and for the food they sell.
  • Before a food can be ordered, its stall must declare which of the 14 main allergens it contains. Stalls must also give the ingredients for anything with more than one, and the size of packed food. Where the law asks for it, they must give where it comes from (meat, fish, fresh fruit and veg, honey), how fish was caught or farmed and where, whether it is made with raw milk, how to store it, and alcohol strength. Stalls must tell shoppers about allergens again at collection, and label anything they pack before it is sold.
  • Stalls must honour confirmed orders. If you cannot, tell us straight away so we can refund the shopper.
  • Fees: listing a stall is free while we are getting started, and markets pay nothing. Shoppers see your prices with our 10% service fee added, and pay that fee to us.
  • Payouts: stalls receive their full prices, less the card processing fee on their sales. Payouts are made through Stripe to the bank account you add, after the market day. Money for an order that is refunded is not paid out.
  • A stall can only take orders once we have approved it for a market. We check with the market where we need to.
  • How listings are ordered: markets are shown nearest first, then by the next market day. Stalls and food follow the same order. Nobody can pay to be shown higher.
  • We may suspend or remove a stall or market that breaks these terms, puts shoppers at risk or gets repeated complaints. We will tell you why, and you can reply to us before a final decision unless the law or safety stops us.
  • We will give you at least 15 days' notice by email before changing these terms or our fees. You can leave before the change takes effect.
  • You can stop at any time. We will give you at least 30 days' notice, with reasons, before ending our arrangement with you, unless you have seriously broken these terms. Orders already taken must still be honoured.
  • Complaints about how we treat your stall: write to the email address above and we will reply within five working days.

Our responsibility to you

We do our best to keep the site available and accurate, but we cannot promise it is free of faults or that a stall will always have what it listed. We are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, or for the acts of a stall or a market. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your legal rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.

Content and intellectual property

The site, its design and its text belong to us. Stall photos and descriptions belong to the stalls, who give us permission to show them on Farmers Basket. Do not copy or scrape the site without written permission.

Complaints and governing law

Tell us about a problem at rafael@ripponstudio.co.uk and we will reply within five working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring a claim in your local courts.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you made it.
